Another great new offering from Surly the Midnight Special a 'road plus' bike.
When the tarmac runs out and the dirt starts there's now no reason to turn for home.
With the ability to run a 650b x 60mm tyre this bike will eat up road chatter and absorb the bumps like the champion it was designed to be.
The frameset is made from Surly's signature 4130 double butted cro-mo for a comfy ride.
Comes in 8 frame sizes to find that perfect fit.
Has a 44mm headtube (should you wish to pop a carbon fork in there), uses modern standards like flat mount disc brakes and front and rear thru axles.
Couple all that with a 650b x 60mm or 700c x 42cm tire clearance and you have a bike that will withstand evolving trends and standards.
The Midnight Special is a little leaner on the braze-on side of things. Well, lean for a Surly. It has mounts for racks, fenders, and three water bottles so you can bring what you need for a long road ride.
It comes in a colour described by Surly as 'Hot Mayonaise'
(think of a slightly pearlescent white), the perfect foundation for customisation.
Add a Brooks honey B17, some gumwall tyres and a Carradice bag for that 'rando' look
or go fast tour with some Apidura bags and a stealthy monochrome look.
Currently as a complete bike you can have a Rival 2 x set up as per the Surly website for £2200.
Builds from £1800 based on Apex 1 with mechanical disc brakes.
I built myself a Midnight Special, see what I thought:
